False Alarms or Real Threats

A recent trend in criminal activity is to test your security system by setting off your outdoor beams, why?

1. This allows the criminals to first find out exactly where your perimeter security is.
2. It allows them to work out how long it takes for your armed response to arrive.
3. It builds a lack of confidence and a "cried wolf" mentality in the home owners and armed response.

We have had two clients who have fallen prey to this tactic in the last 2 weeks that we know of.

In the first case the criminals set the alarm off 4 to 5 times on different occasions on the days leading up to a break-in that took place, where the criminals where able to get in and out before the armed response arrived. When the perimeter security alerted both the owners and armed response they were under the impression it was another false alarm and didn't react as soon as they should have. This was at a business establishment and occurred after hours so all residents were safe from harm.

In the second case the owner's beams alerted them just once a night every second evening or so, the dog would bark but stop shortly after. About the 5th time this happened the owners didn't even get out of bed, but this time a second beam went off and the dog didn't stop barking. By the time the husband looked out his window the criminals were already attempting to break into the children's bedroom window. Fortunately he was still able to scare them off before they had made entry and no harm was done.

If you are experiencing false alarms please don't ignore them. Give us a call to come and check your system and make sure that it is operating correctly.

Kind Regards,
Jonathan
